Interview Appointments for accepted students
Deadline December 15, 2011–Frequently asked questions...

You must apply Ohio University by December 15, 2011.  We are an early deadline admission program.

If you have been accepted you, here is what you need to know.

  • You will receive a letter or email from the Admissions Department and the School of Visual Communication in December that will ask you to schedule a 30 minute interview with the faculty on either January 20, 21 or 27, 28–2012.
  • In the letter you will be given a special web site  to contact and special information to confirm and set your interview appointment.  https://www.admissions.ohiou.edu/viscom_interviews/vcint1.asp
  • You are expected to write a 500 word essay of intent. The essay must be sent by email to the department no later than January 16, 2012, with the subject header as follows:  Essay 2012 YOUR LAST NAME and FIRST NAME (i.e., Essay 2012 Eiler Terry).  The topic:  Why I intend to be a student in the School of Visual Communication
  • You are expected to bring a portfolio of your work to the interview.  Please think of this as your first college advising session.  We are not evaluating or grading your portfolio, but using the examples of your work to discuss you interest in majoring in the school.
  • The portfolio of work can be in either digital or paper form.  We would like to see 12 to 20 examples of your best work.  VisCom is an Apple Mac based program.  If you bring digital work, it will be easiest to view if it is prepared for Mac OS.  A simple folder of .jpgs will always work.
  • There is not a specific portfolio content requirement.  We are willing to look at a broad range of work that represents your accomplishments and perhaps examples of the type of work you want to create.
  • This is a relaxed interview environment.  You will not be grilled and your work will not be subject to open critique.  This is an opportunity to talk with you about your future goals.  We look forward to talking with you about your work and your goals in the School of Visual Communication.
