| The School of Visual Communication computer recommendations by sequence
Each year the faculty is asked by prospective students, what computers are required for the program? There are no computer requirements for the program. However, the vast majority of our students bring computers to school in their first year of college. VisCom is an Apple Macintosh based program. Ohio University and the Scripps College of Communication is in partnership with Apple and offers an exceptional direct purchase program for both hardware and software. The following is the school’s recommendation for sequence appropriate computers and software programs.

Good: MacBook (13 inch 2.13 GHz) Better: MacBookPro (13 or 15 inch 2.5 GHz or faster)
Software: Adobe CS4 Creative Suite and Microsoft Office

Commercial Photography and Photojournalism majors:
Good: MacBook (13 inch 2.13 GHz) Recommended: MacBookPro (13 or 15 inch 2.5 GHz or faster)
Software: Adobe CS4 Creative Suite and Microsoft Office and external hard-drive and digital card reader.
Photojournalism students should have Final Cut Studio in their third year of the program.

The most common portable computer used by VisCom students is the MacBookPro 15 inch with 4 gb of RAM.
These machines are complete with wireless ability that is compatible with Ohio’s campus-wide wireless system.
Machines purchased through the Scripp’s Apple store have a three year Apple Care Warranty.
